Origin and production
Mar de Frades Orujo Blanco is distilled from the fresh pomace left after pressing Albariño grapes in Galicia's Val do Salnés. Steam distillation captures the aromatic character held in the grape skins, while careful separation retains only the pure heart of the run.
No herbs, fruit or oak are used to colour the spirit, allowing the distillate itself to remain the focus. The result is crystalline and direct, combining the warmth of traditional aguardiente with the floral, orchard-fruit and grassy nuances associated with Albariño pomace.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Completely colourless, bright and crystalline, with a clean, fluid appearance.
Nose
Fresh grape skin and green apple are joined by lychee, passion fruit, orange blossom and newly cut grass, with a faint herbal note adding lift.
Palate
Dry, vivid and warming, with clear fruit intensity and a smooth, velvety centre. Orchard and tropical notes give way to herbs and clean grape spirit, finishing long, precise and gently peppery.
Serving suggestions
Serve lightly chilled in a small tulip glass after dinner, or use sparingly in a white-grape sour. It is particularly good beside almond biscuits, Galician cheese or a simple pear tart, where its aromatic purity remains clear.
Background story
Mar de Frades was established in 1987 in the Val do Salnés, the Atlantic heartland of Rías Baixas. Best known for Albariño, the winery also preserves Galicia's long tradition of distilling grape pomace after harvest, making use of the same raw material from a different perspective.
Orujo Blanco is the most unadorned expression in the range. By selecting the heart of the distillation and leaving it free from botanical infusions or cask influence, Mar de Frades presents Albariño's skins as a spirit of clarity, fragrance and distinctly Galician character.
