Vineyards
Produced in Basilicata, Italy, Terre di Orazio Aglianico Del Vulture originates from vineyards at the base of the extinct Monte Vulture volcano. Positioned at altitudes of 450-500 metres, these vineyards are rooted in mineral-rich volcanic soils, enhancing the wine's complexity and distinct minerality. The hot summers and cool nights promote bold tannin structure and rich fruit flavours, key traits of Aglianico. Managed by a cooperative of 350 growers, Cantina di Venosa follows sustainable practices, focusing on natural quality and minimal intervention.
Winemaking
The Aglianico grapes are hand-picked and vinified in small fermenters with extended skin contact for depth and structure. The wine is aged for 12-15 months in a mix of French and Slovenian oak barrels, followed by additional bottle ageing, allowing a balanced expression of fruit, tannin, and volcanic spice.
Appearance
Deep ruby with garnet tinges, showing its maturity from barrel and bottle ageing.
Nose
Aromas of dark plum, dried rose, and balsamic notes are complemented by layers of mineral and pepper, characteristic of its volcanic origin.
Palate
Full-bodied and structured, with flavours of ripe dark fruit balanced by smooth tannins and refreshing acidity. Earthy undertones and a touch of spice lead to a long, food-friendly finish.
Food pairing
Ideal with roasted meats, hearty pasta dishes, and mature cheeses, this wine is perfect for pairing with robust flavours.
