Vineyards
Grown at Tenuta Patrizia Lamborghini in Umbria, the 2002 Campoleone reflects the unique terroir near Lake Trasimeno, characterised by clay-rich soils and a Mediterranean climate. These conditions provide the ideal environment for cultivating Sangiovese and Merlot grapes, which ripen to a concentrated and flavourful profile.
Winemaking
This vintage is a 50/50 blend of Merlot and Sangiovese, vinified separately to enhance each varietal’s character. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels, contributing to its structure, complexity, and depth.
Appearance
Deep ruby red, vibrant and indicative of the wine’s bold profile.
Nose
A rich aromatic profile with notes of cassis, plum, and violet, layered with tobacco, leather, and a touch of balsamic spice, creating a complex bouquet that evolves with time in the glass.
Palate
The palate is full-bodied and layered, showing ripe tannins that add structure to the flavours of dark berries, spice, and earthy undertones. The oak ageing imparts a slight vanilla note, and the finish is long, with lingering hints of chocolate and truffle.
Food Pairing
This wine complements hearty dishes like roasted red meats, game, and aged cheeses, with its bold structure enhancing the flavours of rich cuisine.
