Origin and production
Baron de Sigognac 10 Ans is an estate-produced Bas-Armagnac from Château de Bordeneuve. The Guasch family controls the process from its vineyards of Ugni Blanc and Baco through distillation and maturation, working with the tawny sands that give this western part of the appellation its reputation for finesse.
The wine is distilled once through the estate's traditional continuous copper still, then the eau-de-vie spends at least ten years developing in French oak. Time in cask softens the spirit and builds layers of dried fruit, vanilla and spice without losing its floral core.
Tasting notes
Appearance
Clear amber with mahogany highlights and a warm golden rim.
Nose
Candied orange, vanilla and cinnamon are joined by dried flowers, toffee and lightly toasted oak.
Palate
Rounded and generous, with dried orchard fruit and butterscotch giving way to almond, nutmeg and a gently earthy note. The texture is smooth, the alcohol well integrated, and the finish lingers on marzipan and sweet vanilla.
Serving suggestions
Serve neat in a tulip-shaped glass after dinner, or with almond tart, apple tarte Tatin, or mature Comté. It also makes a polished introduction to sipping Armagnac for those accustomed to aged whisky or Cognac.
Background story
Château de Bordeneuve lies near Eauze in the heart of Bas-Armagnac. The Guasch family maintains its own vineyards, distillery and ageing cellars, an increasingly uncommon degree of control that allows Baron de Sigognac to follow every eau-de-vie from vine to bottle.
The estate keeps a substantial library of maturing casks and vintage releases. This ten-year-old is a firm Sommelier's Choice favourite, valued for offering genuine depth and estate character in an approachable, beautifully balanced form.
