Vineyards
La Brune The Valley Chardonnay 2021 is made from grapes sourced from various vineyards across the cool-climate region of Elgin, South Africa. Known for its high altitude and proximity to the ocean, Elgin's unique terroir promotes slow ripening, resulting in Chardonnay with bright acidity and vibrant flavours. The decomposed granite soils with good drainage contribute to the wine's distinct mineral character. The soils are predominantly decomposed granite with good drainage, which imparts a distinct minerality to the wine.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and carefully sorted to ensure only the finest fruit is used. Fermentation occurs in older 500-litre French oak barrels to preserve the freshness of the fruit while adding subtle texture. The wine is matured on fine lees for 8 months, enhancing its complexity and mouthfeel without overpowering the vibrant fruit character. A careful balance of oak and stainless steel ageing ensures a wine that is both vibrant and structured.
