Vineyards
Quinta do Cardo is a pioneering organic vineyard in Portugal, certified since 2009 and the first of its kind in the country. Situated at 750 metres above sea level in the Beira Interior region, the estate benefits from a high-altitude location that provides natural protection against pests and diseases. This unique microclimate, along with granite-rich soils and a Mediterranean influence, ensures slow ripening and balanced acidity in the grapes. The Superior Branco 2022 is crafted from carefully selected Síria, Fonte Cal, and Arinto vines, showcasing the terroir's exceptional freshness and minerality.
Winemaking
The grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve their vibrant character. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks to retain the purity of the fruit. The wine is aged on fine lees for several months, enhancing texture and complexity while maintaining its bright acidity and fresh profile. Minimal intervention throughout the process ensures the wine authentically expresses its organic and high-altitude origins.
Appearance
Pale straw-yellow with green highlights, reflecting its vibrancy and precision.
Nose
The bouquet is expressive, with aromas of citrus fruits such as lemon and grapefruit, complemented by notes of green apple, white flowers, and a distinct mineral edge.
Palate
On the palate, the wine is fresh and lively, with flavours of citrus and crisp green apple balanced by a creamy texture from lees ageing. A bright acidity and saline minerality lead to a long, clean finish, making it both refreshing and complex.
Food pairing
Superior Branco 2022 is an excellent match for seafood dishes such as grilled sea bass, oysters, or prawn risotto. It also pairs beautifully with light poultry dishes, vegetarian cuisine, and soft cheeses.
