Braida, established by the late Giacomo Bologna, is synonymous with Barbera at its very best. Inspired by the great French wine regions he visited, notably Burgundy, Giacomo believed that Barbera could rival the world's finest wines. In 1961, he produced his first lightly effervescent Barbera. Continuing his quality journey through experimental vineyard plantings, reduced yields, and late harvesting, he caused a stir by being the first to age Barbera in small oak barrels in 1982, the original “Super Barbera”.

This led to the creation of the renowned crus: Uccellone, Bricco della Bigotta, and Ai Suma. Success and recognition were not achieved overnight, but Giacomo's sustained persistence led to Bricco dell’Uccellone being regarded as not only one of the finest wines of Barbera but one of the finest red wines of Italy.

Today, his daughter Raffaella manages the winery, and his son Giuseppe oversees
growing and production, with their spouses’ handling exports and administration.
This family operation values the environment, tradition, and heartfelt passion, resulting in wines that evoke deep emotions. Their uncompromising pursuit of quality, devotion to the terroir, innovation and sustainability are matched by their genuine conviviality and warmth of welcome. We have had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with them for over 20 years.

Braida di Giacomo Bologna Il Fiore 2020 Monferrato Bianco DOC
Grapes: 70% Chardonnay, 30% Nascetta
ABV: 13%

Vineyards & Name Origin:
The name Il Fiore translates to "The Flower," symbolising the harmony between Braida’s international outlook and the deep-rooted traditions of Piedmont. The blend of Chardonnay and Nascetta reflects this union. Chardonnay, with its global presence, brings structure and richness, while Nascetta, a rare and ancient Piedmontese variety, imparts aromatic complexity and freshness. The label also draws inspiration from the suits and values of playing cards, representing the different philosophies that come together in the creation of this wine. The vineyards are located in the Monferrato hills, where the unique soils and climatic conditions enhance the wine’s minerality and acidity.

Winemaking:
The grapes are vinified separately to preserve their distinct characters. Chardonnay undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, while Nascetta is also fermented in stainless steel to preserve its freshness and delicate aromatics. No oak is used, allowing the purity of the fruit and the natural minerality to shine.

Appearance:
Pale straw-yellow with greenish reflections, highlighting its freshness and vibrancy.

Nose:
An expressive, highly aromatic bouquet opens with ripe stone fruits such as peach and apricot, alongside hints of white pepper and a subtle floral note. As the wine evolves, delicate herbal nuances and a light mineral edge add further complexity.

Palate:
On the palate, the wine is refreshing and lively, with grassy citrus flavours and a vibrant juicy structure. The stone fruit notes, particularly nectarine and peach, are well-balanced with a touch of sweet spice and an underlying mineral quality. The crisp acidity carries through to a long, fresh finish, making the wine light yet richly textured. The blend of Chardonnay's body and Nascetta’s aromatic finesse creates a wine that is easy to drink yet elegant.

Food Pairing:
Il Fiore 2020 is a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with meatless starters, delicate pasta dishes, and Mediterranean fish recipes. Its lively acidity and minerality make it an excellent companion for seafood risottos or grilled vegetables.
