Vineyards
Quinta do Cardo is a pioneering organic vineyard in Portugal, certified since 2009 and the first of its kind in the country. Situated on a plateau at 750 metres above sea level in the Beira Interior region, the estate benefits from its high altitude, which offers natural protection against many diseases and pests, reducing the need for interventions. The Síria grapes for the Reserva Branco 2021 come from 50-year-old vines planted in granite-dominant soils, with elements of schist and sand. This unique terroir, combined with the surrounding Marofa and Castelo Rodrigo mountains, ensures slow ripening, balanced acidity, and a mineral-driven character.
Winemaking
Harvested by hand, the Síria grapes were gently pressed to preserve their purity. Fermentation occurred at controlled temperatures to retain the varietal's distinctive profile. Part of the wine was aged on fine lees in stainless steel and neutral French oak barrels, enhancing texture and complexity while maintaining freshness. Minimal intervention throughout the winemaking process ensures the wine authentically reflects its organic, high-altitude terroir.
